This is a picture of my black piano that I've had standing in my four different flats in Malmö since 2005. (This picture also shows the microphones during the recording of my latest EP.)
I have made basically all my songs and covers on this piano. (Before I made more guitar based songs) I have come to love the characteristic lo-fi sound of it. And since it has been on all of my previous recordings I wanted it on my EP Self Love as well, even though this time I also wanted to have real drums and bass, and preferably recorded in a studio...
(Yes I have recorded acoustic drums in my flat as well, for two songs on the Second EP, but that was kind of no happy neighbours, and not so good sound: things just don't get as good as it does in a studio.)
So me and two amazing jazz musicians from Malmö, Kristoffer and Simon, recorded five of my songs after some rehearsing in Sunnanå Studio last year. I then played on an electric piano that could be muted in the recording. Then I could go home and record this beloved piano sound to that groovy drum and bass track instead of a nasty click track. Win.
I thought the EP was gonna be done and out to last summer. But it took a bit longer.
In the hottest june, I recorded the vocals and the violin in my flat as usual but when I had the first mixes in October I realized it could be so much better. I had resently also just learned that violin is so much better to record in stereo! So I re-recorded the violins (in my new place on the countryside) in stereo and decided to re-record the vocals in the studio.
I'm glad I did!
Next Friday the last song on the EP will be out everywhere as a single. And soon I will receive the physical CDs of the EP that can be pre-ordered in my webshop!
I will write more about the songs in a coming post. But for now, just wanted to say it's up and coming.
I also made a video to the single that I'm excited to share soon.
